UK Expat Daily publishes practical guides for people who have just moved to the United Kingdom, or are preparing to. Tax codes, council tax bands, GP registration, National Insurance numbers, tenancy rules, sponsor licences, eVisas: the assumed knowledge runs deep, and most UK sources are written for people who already know the system. We write for the people who do not.
Our guides are organised into six subject hubs, each one linking to the detailed guides beneath it. Start at a hub if you are new, or go straight to the guide you need.
What we cover
- UK Visa & Immigration: work, study and family routes, settlement, and the Immigration Health Surcharge
- Money & Banking: opening an account with no credit history, National Insurance numbers, tax codes, and sending money abroad
- NHS & Healthcare: registering with a GP, NHS numbers, what treatment costs, and when to use a pharmacy, 111 or A&E
- Property & Renting: tenant rights, deposit protection, Right to Rent checks, and renting without a guarantor
- Daily Life: exchanging a driving licence, school places, Council Tax, and setting up utilities and broadband
- Culture & Arts: getting access to museums, theatre and galleries without overpaying
How we work
Every guide is built from primary sources: GOV.UK, HMRC, the Home Office, NHS.uk and the relevant regulators. Figures such as visa thresholds, prescription charges and deposit caps are checked against the official page before publication, and the source is linked inside the guide so you can verify it yourself.
We use AI tools to help draft and structure our guides. No guide is published on that basis alone: the facts, figures and rules in each one are checked against official sources by our editorial team before it goes live. Where we get something wrong, we correct it and say so. Our full sourcing and corrections policy is set out in our Editorial Standards.
Our guides are general information, not legal, financial or immigration advice. Rules change, and your circumstances matter. For decisions that carry consequences, check the official guidance or speak to a qualified adviser.
